Poetry often brings up images to the reader that the poet never intended…one of the hallmarks of great poetry IMHO.
The “in gas tank lots – firing from the hip” bring to mind teens cruising main at midnight and meeting up in an empty parking lot” tradition of small town USA back in the day.
Just sayin’…
